Following a 13 – 8 season, Pella Christian Eagles head boys basketball coach, Larry Hessing, is very excited to get his team started on the road to Des Moines. The Eagles will be returning several key players from last campaign’s team, including Austin Ver Meer, Caleb Morgan, and Blake Riggen. One big thing to note about the Pella Christian boys’ squad is that no player on the varsity roster is listed at under six feet tall. Not only is Hessing pumped for this season to begin, but his players have set a high bar for themselves to jump over for this year.
“These guys want to return to the state tournament,” Hessing said. “I know that’s the goal for many-a high school basketball team. Sometimes it’s just stated, but we don’t know the matchups yet. We just don’t know how that will all pan out. I like to break the season down into thirds, and right now, our first third of the season is just getting to the Christmas break, and seeing how we can improve between now and then.”
The first third of the season will be tough for the Eagles, as they will be facing PCM, Newton, and Western Christian all on the road right before the break for the holidays. The Eagles boys’ basketball team will open up their season this Monday at West Marshall.
