The gun will go off this morning for the 22nd Annual Dettman Turkey Trot. Last year, the five kilometer prediction race drew a record 160 people to the Knoxville Recreation Center and Marion County Park. Rec Center Wellness Supervisor Trish Worrall says the race is a tradition for many families in Knoxville, with many lots of out-of-towners taking part. She notes that some people even like to dress up in Thanksgiving-themed costumes while running to have some fun. The race is a prediction race where each participant guesses how fast they’ll run the race before they start. Whoever is closest to their time wins a 12-to-14 pound turkey. Worrall says other prizes will also be given away to help complete the Thanksgiving meal.
