A thing of beauty it was not, but the Knoxville Girls Basketball Squad will take a win any way and last night in Chariton proved that. Both teams struggled from the field and turned the ball over 25 times but Knoxville made free throws in the fourth quarter to pull off a 34-31 victory over the Chargers. Knoxville held just a 14-11 lead at the half then fell behind 20-17 at the end of three. That is when Knoxville doubled its score in the fourth quarter with free throw shooting and defense. Meredith Cunningham led all scorers with 15 points. Knoxville is now 3-4 on the season. The Panther boys once against were in range but just did not have enough in a 55-46 loss to Chariton last night. The Panthers’ game plan was to pack it inside and let Chariton have the outside shot. The Chargers took advantage by hitting 8/15 from long range. Coach Jeff Larson was happy with the effort, but the three is what did in his team. Gerrit Davis led Knoxville with 15 points…while Ryan Douglas and Chase Higgenbotham had ten each. Knoxville is now 0-7 on the season. Both boys and girls are off until Friday when they travel to Newton.
