The Pella Christian boys’ basketball team is trying to win their fourth in a row for the first time this season, and will have the chance to do so at home against Gilbert this evening in a non-conference match-up. The 6 – 6 Tigers are in a tough Pride of Iowa Conference, a league that has presented its problems to the Eagles’ boys this year; losing to both PCM and North Polk. Head coach, Larry Hessing said that despite Gilbert having a “not-too-jump-off-the-page” record, his guys still need to be prepared for a battle against a good team.
“It’s a non-conference game, but we want to be on an even keel,” Hessing said. “We want to play well again. Gilbert is a decent ball team. I don’t know a lot about them right off hand, but just by comparative scores with some of the teams in their conference and how we’ve fared against a couple of teams in their conference, that is, we have lost to a couple teams in their conference, we need to be ready to play a good basketball game again.”
Pella Christian’s boys find themselves currently in first place in the Little Hawkeye Conference following their big win over Grinnell Tuesday. Tonight’s non-conference game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
