Both Twin Cedars’ and Melcher-Dallas’ girls’ basketball teams won their opening round games of the Bluegrass Conference Tournament on Monday, and this evening each will try to advance to the finals. The number two-seeded Sabers’ girls walloped Mormon Trail 58 – 15, and tonight will go to Murray and face the Mustangs, who have only lost two games all season, one of them was to the Sabers in late November. The two teams have matured since then, says head coach Justin Nolte, and tonight he expects a scrappy, 32-minute battle. The Saints will also be playing in Murray, but will have to topple top-seeded Moravia in order to reach the finals. The two teams also played at the end of November, with the Mohawks coming away with a 62 – 18 victory. Saints’ head girls’ basketball coach, Jon Suntken, said that his girls will have to play their best game of the season in order to knock off Moravia. Tonight’s semifinal action tips off in Murray at 6:15 p.m.
