Senator Amy Sinclair says she would not support a bill that would eventually reduce the number of counties in Iowa from 99 to 50. She tells KNIA/KRLS that county government needs to remain as local as possible. Sinclair served on the Wayne County Board of Supervisors before becoming a State Senator. She says rural counties have worked for years to keep costs down by consolidating services with each other through 28E agreements. She says consolidating the counties themselves, however, would reduce the local accountability to constituents.
