Outstanding pitching was the story of Central’s sweep of the Dubuque baseball team on Friday. Ryan Goetzinger threw a complete game, seven-inning, one-hit shutout of Dubuque in a 1 – 0 victory for the Dutch. Central finally gave Goetzinger some run support with some small ball in the sixth. A two-out single by Jordan Judkins, followed by a swipe of second and an RBI base knock by Robbie Rushing plated the only run Central needed behind Goetzinger’s gem. The Dutch then completed the sweep in walk-off style, 4 – 3, as a Spartan error in the ninth let the game-winning run touch the plate. Central improves to 10 – 5 on the year overall and are back to .500 in the Iowa Conference with a mark of 2 – 2. The four game league set wraps up today starting at 1:00 p.m. on the A.N. Kuyper Athletics Complex field.
