It’ll be a busy night on both the baseball and softball diamonds this evening when Pella Christian hosts Colfax-Mingo for a pair of games. The Eagles’ baseball team comes into tonight with a 2 – 2 record, and are playing their first home game since opening the season two weeks ago against Pleasantville and winning 12 – 2. Coltin Collins leads the team in batting, entering today’s contest with a .573 average. Coach Nate Johnson, in his first year on the job, is very happy with how his guys are adapting to his teachings on the defensive side of the ball at this point in the year. In the other dugout, the Tigerhawks just had their four-game winning streak snapped on Saturday at the hands of Albia, and are 4 – 3. Chad McLain is the offensive juggernaut for Colfax-Mingo, as he’s currently batting .542 with a home run and ten RBI’s on the season. On the softball side of things, the Eagles are 4 – 3 – 1 at the moment, having beat North Mahaska Saturday 6 – 5, while the Tigerhawks are just 1 – 0 with their only game coming so far against Greene County on Friday. The first pitch for the varsity baseball and softball contests is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tonight.
