While certain species, like coyotes and groundhogs, can be hunted year round in Iowa, the majority of seasons will begin in late September to early November. Ken Kenyon with the Marion County DNR, says that one season that is currently open is for Mourning Doves, and Eurasian Collared Doves. Kenyon adds that doves are probably the most popular animal to hunt in the United States because any age can do it. Kenyon continues by saying that it’s also very inexpensive and convenient to find a pond or water source to locate the birds.
