The Knoxville Streetscape project is helping prep downtown for the future in more ways than one. Assistant City Manager Dylan Feik tells KNIA/KRLS News that the City is taking the opportunity to lay down vacant conduit lines that could be used for fiber optics in the future. He explains there is not fiber cable being laid right now except for a couple lines between the county and city. Feik notes that having the vacant conduit lines will make it very low cost to install, and there will be no need to tear up any streets. He says that this project is being utilized not just to fix existing problems, but to set Knoxville up for the future. Feik adds they’ll be ready to go with any future need for fiber optics.
