State Representative Ken Roozenboom says that an issue that has many concerned around the state, including at the capitol, is the Emerald Ash Borer’s attack on our states Ash trees. He says that Iowa has 52 million Ash trees, which makes it more complicated than just cutting them down and replanting replacements. According to the Iowa State Extension Office, the exotic beetle was first discovered in 2002, and has destroyed millions of Ash trees since. Federal quarantines are in place for six entire states, and Iowa has 25 counties under such watch, including Wapello and Keokuk counties, which both border Mahaska county.
