Fire departments were called out for 12 grass fires and one chimney fire over the weekend. There were 27 controlled burns. The majority of the grass fires crews went to were not called in. Some of the fires required the assistance of multiple agencies, including Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Pleasantville Fire Department and the Melcher-Dallas Fire Department. One firefighter suffered a minor injury. Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department Chief Kenny Thompson tells KNIA KRLS News that he hopes Monday’s rain will cut the risk, but with increasing winds and the forecasted reduction in humidity, it cannot be certain. Fire crews would like to remind everyone to call in controlled burns before they’re started.
