Several state track and field records fell during day one of the 2014 State Track and Field Meet at Drake Stadium yesterday. Everything from 20+ year old records being shattered, and times posted that rank as second best in the country. In the local scene, Pleasantville had a great first day, with a state champion being crowned in Patrick Sheehey in the long jump, and he also qualified his 100 meter dash for finals on Saturday. The Pella High boys came very close to repeating as 4 x 800 meter relay champions, but settled for a second place finish. Pella High’s girls came away with eight points with finishes in the discus and high jump. Tanner Dunkin placed third overall in the qualifying for the 100 and 200 meter dashes and will try to become a state champion in both of those on Saturday. Nathan Winters was sixth overall in the discus. Full results are on KNIAKRLS.com.
