The United States Lawn Mower Racing Association will hold the 3rd annual Midwest Sta-Bil Mower Nationals, in Carlisle at the River Bottom Raceway June 28 and 29. Marty Murphy is from Knoxville, and he is the president of the Central Iowa Lawn Mower Racing Association. Murphy says racers from as far away as Florida and Canada, show up to race their mowers in three classes – local stock; GP class, features mowers with a prepared chassis with stock motors. The third class is CP, and the last class is FX. These have a motor that started life as a mower motor but can turn up to 40 horse power out of a 30 cubic inch motor. He says the mowers spin around the tracks up to 50 miles per hour, or even more.
