The competition for the 2014 Marion County Fair Queen will be held Saturday at First United Methodist Church, in Knoxville. Coordinator Codi Prachar says there will be ten girls competing, from Knoxville, Pella, and Pleasantville. Early in the day, the girls will gather at the church and go through interviews with the judges, and at 7, the stage portion takes place, which is open to the public.
Meet the candidates:
Shelby VanSteenwyk is the daughter of Kevin and Lynne VanSteenwyk of Knoxville, Iowa. Shelby is involved in Octagon Club, 4-H, Camera Club, Tennis, and Jr. Chamber of Knoxville. Some of Shelby’s favorite activities include reading, shopping, playing tennis and spending time with her friends and family. Shelby is heading to Iowa State University in the fall where she is planning to major in Apparel, Merchandising, and Design.
Rachel Morgan is the daughter of Dave and Lori Morgan of Knoxville, Iowa. Rachel is involved in National Honor Society, bowling, golf, 4-H, and was a boys basketball manager. Rachel enjoys traveling, shopping, spending time with friends, and quoting 80’s movies. Rachel plans to attend Simpson College in the fall where she will major in International Business.
Rebecca Colboth is the daughter of Ernie and Sara Colboth of Pleasantville, Iowa. Rebecca is involved in FFA, Speech and Drama Club, Spanish Club, Science Club, Choir, College Exposure Softball, and Varsity Softball. Rebecca’s favorite activities are hunting, softball, and hanging out with friends and family. Rebecca will be a senior this fall and plans to first attend a two year college and then transfer to a four year college after graduation to study Pre-Med.
Megan Molloy is the daughter of Kim and Mark Molloy of Knoxville, Iowa. Megan has filled her high school years with National Honor Society, 4-H, band, choir, theater, and her job at the Knoxville Public Library. Her favorite ways to spend her time are making music, crafting Dyer-Hudson projects, and goofing off with the people she loves. Megan’s fall plans are to attend Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois to study English and Creative Writing.
Jacey Crouse is the daughter of Cindy Crouse. She has been a cheerleader for both football and wrestling all four years of high school. In the fall, Jacey plans to attend Indian Hills Community College where she will work towards her Arts and Sciences and Early Childhood degrees. After Indian Hills she plans to attend UNI for Elementary Education. When Jacey isn’t at school, work, or cheerleading, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her friends and family.
Cathryn Yoder is the daughter of Tim and Beth Yoder of Pella, Iowa. Cathryn is involved in National Honor Society, Cross Country, Soccer, PHS Student Council, 4-H, and Wednesday night Bible study. Cathryn’s favorite activities include any outside activity, baking with her mom, showing cattle at the Marion County Fair, and spending time with family and friends. Cathryn will be a senior this fall at Pella Community High School and plans to attend Iowa State University after she graduates to double major in Ag Communications and Event Planning.
Codi Deaver is the daughter of Tim Deaver and Susan Deaver of Knoxville. Codi is involved in FFA, and her favorite activities are running, fishing, 4-wheeling and spending time hanging out with friends and family. Codi will be senior this fall and plans to attend an undecided college to major in Public Relations after graduation.
Jocelyn Beaver is the daughter of Robert and Jackie Beaver of Knoxville, Iowa. Jocelyn is involved in 4-H, Choir, the Knoxville High School Bowling Team, and has been in many musicals through her high school career and the Knoxville Area Community Theater. Jocelyn’s favorite activities are working on cars, vocal performances, fishing and spending time with friends and family. Jocelyn plans on attending William Penn University this fall, to pursue a degree in Business Management with a minor in Graphic Design.
Melissa Molloy, daughter of Kim and Mark Molloy, is going into her senior year at Knoxville High School this fall. She is involved in the National Honor Society, 4-H, and will be directing the Knoxville High School Marching Band this fall for her second year as drum major. Melissa loves to spend time working at the Knoxville Veterinary Clinic as an assistant, and to pursue her artistic hobbies.
Olivia Montgomery is the daughter of Marty and Tami Montgomery of Knoxville. She will be a senior at Knoxville High School this fall. Olivia is a member of the Knoxville Shooting Team, FFA, and the White Breast Beavers 4-H Club, where she holds the office of Treasurer for 2013-2014. She also volunteers at the Marion County Humane Society and is a Celebrate Community Church member. Olivia enjoys hunting, target practice, spending time with family and friends, watching movies and reading. Olivia plans to attend DMACC or Indian Hills Community College for a career in nursing. She also plans to get her CDL license and drive a semi traveling around the United States.
