A swimming advisory is no longer in effect for two beaches at Lake Red Rock. They were posted last Friday at North Overlook Beach and Whitebreast Beach in response to the presence of a blue-green algae bloom. The blooms near the beach and the dam have since diminished. The Corps of Engineers will continue to monitor the water quality of these swim areas and the main body of the lake through routine water sampling. Samples taken this week showed levels of bacteria and algae are well below levels of concern. They do, however, remind the public to stay away from water that is covered with scum, is bright green or blue in color, or has a bad odor. If you come in contact with water where a blue-green algae bloom has formed, wash off with fresh water and soap and contact your healthcare provider if you experience any adverse symptoms.
