The Iowa State Patrol is reminding area drivers to drive safely and defensively with a large volume of vehicles on the roadway this weekend.

Safety Education Officer Doug Cutts says all area police departments will have extra patrols enforcing traffic violations on the roadways as a part of Labor Day weekend. He urges drivers to pay attention to posted speed limits, wear seat belts, and to avoid drinking and driving and driving distracted. Cutts says Iowa has less fatalities on highways than other neighboring states, but says the goal is to always have zero.
