The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team went into operation last night when the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning at 10:09PM lasting until 11:00PM.
Staff in the studio gave reports from the National Weather Service regarding not only the Severe Thunderstorm Warning, but also a Tornado Watch and a Flash Flood Warning that went into effect until the early morning hours. Weather Eye meteorologists were also on air, giving up to the minute reports of local conditions. Trained weather spotters on the KNIA/KRLS staff also issued reports from Pleasantville and Knoxville as the storm focused on the northwest part of the county. A total of 1.12 inches of rain fell in Knoxville, and 1.01 inches in Pella. Wind speed reached a high of 38mph on the Mile Long Bridge north of Knoxville, and 40mph at our studio in Knoxville. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office tells KNIA/KRLS News that there were no reports of damage in the county.
