A not guilty plea was entered by a Knoxville man accused of shooting another person in the head.

59-year-old Ricky Lee Hyatt has been charged with Attempted Murder, a Class B Felony, and Willful Injury – Causing Serious Injury, a Class C felony.

Knoxville Police were called to the 900 block of North Roche Street on October 23rd and discovered Hyatt was connected with a person who was being treated at Knoxville Hospital and Clinic’s Emergency Room for a gunshot wound to the head. According to court documents, Hyatt repeatedly told police “I shot him,” after they arrived.

The victim, identified in court records as 28-year-old Sean Vrban, was taken to a Des Moines hospital for surgery and has begun his recovery.

A trial date for Hyatt has been set for January 9th.
