A Monroe man faces a felony charge for his involvement in a domestic dispute Thursday evening.
Twenty-nine year old Joshua Steven Nelson has been charged with 1st Degree Arson, a Class B Felony and domestic abuse assault – strangulation. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 6 p.m. south of Monroe on Highway 14 in Marion County. Upon arrival, police found the victim locked in a car, and noticed she had difficulty speaking and breathing. The victim told police Nelson that she was choked and that Nelson set a robe on fire inside the home, which she had to put out. Nelson fled into nearby woods and was armed with a knife. Deputies were able to contact him via phone, and he eventually surrendered. He is in custody at Marion County Jail.
