At the halfway point of their Tucson spring break trip, the Central College softball team is 6-2 in the desert, and 8-4 overall on the season. For many programs, a winning clip of two-thirds is a pretty solid mark, but for the tradition rich Dutch, it’s been a disappointing start. The 6-2 loss to Wisconsin-LaCrosse on Sunday was maddening because of the way it happened – errors, strikeouts and missed opportunities. But the loss to Denison a day later was worse, as Central had just beaten the Big Red 11-3 the day before and pitched poorly in Monday’s 8-7 setback. Coach George Wares says that the high expectations, and the gut-punch feeling that comes with every loss, is just a part of gig. Central returns to action today against a pair of NAIA schools from North Dakota. They’ve got 8 more games over the next 4 days to complete their spring break trip.
