Flash Flood Safety

This week is Flood Awareness Week.
Hydrologist Jeff Zogg with the National Weather Service says the leading cause of damage and injuries in the state of Iowa is flooding. Meteorologist Roger Podrazik says flash flooding is particularly dangerous because it doesn’t take a lot of water to cause hazardous conditions.
“It only takes a few inches of water to sweep you off your feet, and it only takes two feet of fast flowing water to sweep a car down a stream,” Podrazik says.
The National Weather Service reminds drivers if they encounter a flooded roadway, to “turn around, don’t drown.”
