It took five hours, but finally, the Pella High boys’ tennis team took care of business against Davenport Assumption in the first round of the district team tournament on Saturday. The two schools split the six singles matches, and it took victories from the doubles’ teams of Tom Pettit-Jamison Roozeboom and Sam Dykstra-Colin Jones to pull out the 5 – 4 win. The Little Dutch lost the first sets of five of the six singles matches to the Knights. Unfortunately, the first five hours of tennis did a toll on Pella, as cramping and ware slowed them to a halt in the round of eight against Maharishi, losing 5 – 1 in the singles portion. Nathan Chaplin at No. 6 singles picked up Pella’s lone win over Maharishi. Full results are below. The doubles’ team of Jamison Roozeboom and Tom Pettit are the last ones playing for the Pella boys, in the state individual tournament on May 29 and 30.
