Knoxville and Pella Christian softball squads split their double header last night. The Eagles took game one in a shootout 11-7. Pella Christian threatened to make it a short game when the Eagles exploded for five runs in the second inning and another in the third to make it 6-0. But Knoxville came back to with five of its own in the fourth taking advantage of Eagle mistakes in the field and timely hitting. Pella Christin would counter with four more in the sixth and tacked on an insurance run in the seventh. Emma Schnell earned the win allowing nine hits but striking out eight Panthers batters while Delaynee South took the loss. Game two went Knoxville’s way 6-5 in comeback fashion. The Panthers got down big again five nothing, but a bases loaded double by Avery Neer sparked the Panther comeback. Coach Steph Christner told KNIA/KRLS Neer’s hitting was the key to the game two win. Neer was 3/4 with four R-B-I in game two and had four total hits in the two games combined. Jada Agan earned the win for Knoxville scattering nine hits and striking out three. Natalie Vos pitched 5 2/3 innings before giving way to Schnell to finish the game off. Knoxville is now 12-9 on the season while Pella Christian is 13-3.
