Knoxville Fire Chief Jim Mitchell says an electrical incident at Red Ribbon Bakery on the downtown square should serve a reminder why there’ve been recent changes to city’s fire code.
Mitchell said an electrical outlet that had an air conditioning unit connected to it arced and began to spark. The owner of Red Ribbon, Lisa Marshall, unplugged the unit and fire crews shut off the breaker. No one was injured and there was no damage.
Mitchell says it could have been different had the incident happened at a different time of day. He says putting a fire suppression system in the older downtown buildings is a good preventative tool.
