Many area towns are preparing for Independence Day celebrations this weekend.
Pella and Knoxville will hold 4th of July festivities on Saturday, with fireworks set to begin after dusk. KNIA/KRLS will participate in many area parades, and the KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio will be at Knoxville’s celebration playing music. On Friday from 9 to 11 p.m., KNIA/KRLS will play non-stop patriotic music and on Saturday, it will be played on 92.1 KRLS and kniakrls.com from 8 to 11 p.m. due to the broadcast at Knoxville Raceway.
The city of Leighton will be holding Independence Day celebrations on Friday. The evening will start with dinner at Christian Reformed Church. They will also have concession stands, games, and educational activities at Ebenezer Reformed Church and at the ball diamond. Their patriotic parade will run up Otley Street at 7:30 p.m., and fireworks start at 10 p.m.
Pella (July 4th):
Fishing at Caldwell Park, with poles and bait provided, will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Pony rides on Franklin Street will start in the morning near downtown, with games and activities in central park. The parade down Franklin Street starts at 1:30 at East 2nd Street. Kids can show up to participate in the parade in costume and win prizes on the day of. The Aquatic Center will be open from 4 to 7 p.m.
Pleasantville (July 4th):
July 4th celebration starts at 7:00 a.m with breakfast provided by the Order of the Eastern Star Pleasant Chapter #378, and fireworks take place in the evening provided by Pleasantville Emergency Services. A pet show, parade, lunch at the Methodist Church, a presentation by the Star-Spangled Banner Squad at the high school, and activities for all ages at the Cora Shadle Memorial Park take place throughout the rest of the day.
For the second year in a row, the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce is encouraging float entries by awarding cash prizes for parade float entries.
