The Pella School Board approved a contract for a new parking loop in front of Pella High School at their meeting this week.

Superintendent Greg Ebeling says this project will improve traffic flow on the west side of the district’s campus along East 8th Street and University.

“There will be a new bus lane and parking actually in front of the school, and the on-street parking will eventually go away,” he says. “That will create some more safety on University, so instead of people backing out on University, they won’t have to do that any more.”

The board also considered their options to move two storm water retention areas at Lincoln Elementary that are currently above ground.

“The low estimate is $140,000 to make that happen,” Ebeling tells KNIA/KRLS News. “But we just feel like were not going to have the amount of green space we need for children.”

Ebeling says they are hoping to create additional flat green space, because the new facility and new parking are taking up much of what they had previously.
