Nine made field goals from beyond the arc in the first half, and a strong effort down the stretch propelled the Pella Christian boys’ basketball team to a 52 – 49 win over Dallas Center – Grimes on Thursday evening. The Mustangs’ turnovers and cold shooting in the opening two periods led to just 18 points for them on the scoreboard for the half, while the Eagles put up 30. The lead was trimmed in half after the third quarter, but PC was destined and determined not to let another late lead slip away. Levi Jungling scored 19 points, and Mitch Fopma had 12. The Eagle girls were only down 23 – 15 at the half to the Fillies, but fell, 45 – 32. Brooke Mitrisin was not in the line-up due to illness, but other players stepped up in her absence. Kailey Wilson scored 11 points and had seven rebounds, Morgan Fopma had six and nine, respectively. Pella Christian out-rebounded D-C-G, 34 – 26. PC’s girls end the regular season at 7 – 14, while the boys are now 11 – 9. The latter will face undefeated Grand View Christian in their season finale tonight at home, while the former begins regional tournament play tomorrow versus North Mahaska.
