The City of Pella’s Board of Adjustment unanimously approved the first-of-its-kind special use permit for taverns in the downtown business district at their meeting Tuesday.
Owners of the Cellar Peanut Pub Marty and Betsy Duffy applied for the use after acquiring a vacant lot on Franklin Street. They tell KNIA/KRLS News they have yet to set a hard opening date, but they anticipate it to happen in the next few weeks.
The permit process was established by the Pella City Council in the form of an ordinance at the February 2nd meeting, which allowed bars in the downtown district, but limited the number of establishments through the special use permit.
A large crowd attended, and all who spoke supported the new establishment.
