There’s only one giant step left for both boys’ basketball teams from Pella High and Ballard to get to the Class 3A state tournament in a little over a week. That leap will be taken inside of Johnston High School for the substate game between the Bombers and Little Dutch on Monday night. It was a lopsided affair the first time these two met back on December 8; Pella thumped Ballard, 76 – 49, despite just two made three-pointers for the game. They did have the edge in rebounding, as they have most of the season, getting a total of 44 boards to Ballard’s 33. However, Pella High could only muster 21 rebounds in their district final win on Thursday against Bondurant-Farrar, something assistant coach Phil Hemming says needed improvement in practice coming into Monday. The winner tonight will be one of the final eight left in Class 3A and will get to play inside of Wells Fargo Arena next week. Our play-by-play coverage will begin at 6:40 p.m. with Cory Houser and Mike Buchheit on the play-by-play on 92.1 KRLS, KNIAKRLS.com, and via our free mobile app. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
