The National Weather Service 2016 Spring Flood Outlook received an update this week.
According to Senior Hydrologist Jeff Zogg, the risk of risk of minor river flooding is near to above normal at most locations in Central Iowa. The risk of moderate and major river flooding is also near normal at all locations. Zogg says waterways will be more sensitive than normal to precipitation trends, especially if moderate to heavy rainfall occurs.
He encourages anyone encountering a flooded roadway to find an alternate route.
The main reasons for the elevated sensitivity of flooding are elevated soil moisture and streamflow values for this time of year.
