Tornadoes may be the most dangerous element of severe weather during the spring and summer months.
Warning Coordination Meteorologist Kelsey Angle tells KNIA/KRLS News a warning for tornadic activity relies on a few observations from National Weather Service staff.
“A tornado warning is issued when we are seeing circulation the storm, or the storm could produce tornado,” Angle says. “So that’s when we want people to take the precautions before a tornado is occurring, or we’ve seen a report from a confirmed spotter or law enforcement official that there is a tornado associated with the storm as well.”
Angle says to immediately take shelter in an interior room or basement when a tornado warning is triggered.
The annual statewide tornado drill begins at 10 a.m. with a watch, followed by full sirens at 10:20.
