Forty Pella 6th and 7th graders competed at the district level in the annual National History Day competition at Central College.

Under the guidance of Mrs. Van Hemert and Mrs. Winward, 6th grade students created an exhibit, website, documentary, performance, or paper for competition on March 30th. This year the theme was “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange”. Six students qualified for the state competition which will be held at HyVee Hall in Des Moines on April 25th.

Carver Van Zee and Gage Huyser (Railroad to Freedom: Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad exhibit), Gavin Norton (The Mississippi River website), Emily Buckingham (The Mystery of the Roanoke Colony exhibit), and Ella Corbin and Allie Singer (John Wilkes Booth performance) Bailey Knouse (The Rockettes exhibit) and Macy Van Gorp (John Muir: Father of our National Parks exhibit) earned an honorable mention, and many of our students received special interest awards.
