An aircraft that looks like a small helicopter, but is actually a gyroplane has been spotted over Knoxville.

Dwight Loomis of Carlisle, owner of the gyroplane, tells KNIA/KRLS News he specially ordered the craft from Europe a year ago. He and his wife are in the process of learning to fly it and chose to use the Knoxville airport because it is a quieter and lower traffic area to learn. Loomis says gyroplane has a top speed of 120mph and is fun to fly. Beyond recreation Loomis hopes to fly it for local ministry groups and give rides to children at those events. Loomis appreciates the friendliness of the Knoxville airport.
