The day started off fine for the Pella High boys’ soccer team, but the Little Dutch went 1 – 2 in their Saturday tournament at the Cownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines. Pella defeated Council Bluffs – Abraham Lincoln in match number one, 2 – 1. Jay Belding and Will Warner were the goal-scorers for the Dutch. Game two against Sioux City West was scoreless at intermission, but the Little Dutch allowed two early goals in the second half before dropping, 2 – 1. Evan Armstrong had the game’s only tally for Pella, who would not score in the day’s final match against 2A powerhouse Sioux City Heelan, losing 3 – 0. Pella’s overall record stands at 4 – 4, and they’ll play cross-town rival and undefeated Pella Christian next on Tuesday.
