When you are 60 years old, you typically are not driving a sprint car. But not everyone is Sammy Swindell. The 1983 Knoxville Nationals winner drove by Davey Heskin on the final lap to get a much needed win at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday. Heskin was dominating the National Sprint League A-Main with a two-second lead but a yellow for Brian Brown closed the field. After the restart, Heskin was able to maintain the lead, but another yellow with three laps to go bunched the field again. Swindell waited until the final lap to make his move and led for may be the last 300 yards of the race. Swindell told KNIA/KRLS Sports his crew had been making changes on the car and feels now they are starting to work. Jamie Ball, after several tough luck nights finally won his first 360 race of the Knoxville season, and Kade Higday, who started off the season in 360s only to be injured in the an accident early in the season won his second career 305 race. The Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame Inductions also took place. Going in this year’s class were Dave Beebe, Larry Pinegar the Second, Doug Clark, and Adrian Zoutte.
