For the first time since November, a Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued in Marion County.
KNIA/KRLS was live with Severe Weather Action Team Coverage at 1:25 p.m., and on the air for eight minutes as the warning for southeastern Marion County was allowed to expire as a line of storms moved east. Three KNIA/KRLS staff members were live on the air, and WeatherEye meteorologists provided an update as the warning expired.
The Tulip City received .95″ of precipitation, .96″ was recorded at our KNIA/KRLS studios in Knoxville, and 1.05″ fell at Lake Red Rock as of 2:30 p.m.
Widespread power outages were reported, with nearly three dozen customers without power in Knoxville and Melcher-Dallas immediately following the storms, according to MidAmerican Energy, and over 2000 in Oskaloosa at the peak of the outage. Over 80 in Leighton had power knocked out after a line fell near Leighton State Bank. Pella Rural Fire and Pella Ambulance assisted with the incident.
