Bryan Clauson, who had gained a reputation for driving anytime type of race car anywhere including this year at the Knoxville Raceway, died of injuries suffered in a midget race at Belleville, Kansas over the weekend. Clauson was running in the A-Main of the Belleville Midget Nationals on Saturday and had just taken the lead when he crashed into the guard rail and was hit at high speed by another car. He was airlifted to a Lincoln, Nebraska hospital where he passed away Sunday night. Clauson was considered a throwback driver who was successful in midgets, wing and non-wing sprint cars. He won the 2014 Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, a multi-time USAC champion, and had qualified for the A-Main of the Knoxville Nationals the last two years, and was scheduled to compete this week in the Thursday preliminary qualifier. In addition he has raced in the last three Indianapolis 500s finishing 23rd this year. Clauson was also on a quest this year to run 200 races by the end of 2016 calling it the Circular Insanity Tour. He had over 100 races logged and had won 27 races this year. Clauson was 27 years old.
