A National Emergency Alert System test will be conducted today.
Iowa EAS Co-Chair Jim Davies says the alert system was originally intended to give the President a way to address the nation in times of crisis and has been expanded for a wide range of emergency concerns. Davies says the system can be used for evacuations, tornadoes, hurricanes and Amber Alerts. He stressed the importance of the system and the role of broadcast media in keeping Iowans safe. The test tones and a message will play across all broadcast media at 1:20 p.m. today. KNIA/KRLS Radio has invested in EAS equipment and participates in both weekly and monthly tests to assure that we are prepared to communicate information in the event of a local, state, regional or national emergency. The Iowa Emergency Alert System is the trigger for Amber Alerts statewide to help find missing and exploited children.
