When Pella and Webster City take the field tomorrow night for the class 3-A state championship game, it will be a clash of styles.
The Lynx, coached by four-decade legend Bob Howard, employ the old-school single wing. They’ve rushed for 4,136 yards, by far the most in class 3-A this season – more than a thousand yards more than second place Xavier.
They are in the bottom 10 of passing yards, and have only completed 28 passes in 12 games.
On the other hand, Pella has the most passing yards in class 3-A with the benefit of two extra games on Norwalk. The Little Dutch have thrown for 2,609 yards.
Unlike Webster City, Pella does have the ability to be balanced. They are a top 20 rushing offense, with 2,128 yards.
But when you combine it all together – the teams are within 25 yards of each other over 12 games, with the Lynx holding the slight edge.
Kickoff tomorrow night is at 7:06 at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. Our coverage starts with the Jeromy Dingeman Concrete Football Friday Night Radio Preview Show at 5:00 live from the Lil’ Big Red Radio.
