The Salvation Army in Knoxville will start their annual bell ringing campaign at Living Windows tonight in Knoxville.
19 churches and 15 community organizations participated last year to bring in more than $33,000 according to organizing volunteer Merna Furney. Furney says 90% of the money that goes into red kettles here in Marion County stays here. The other 10% goes towards Salvation Army Disaster Relief Efforts. Furney says there’s something special about ringing the bells. The cheery sound and spirit of giving it creates makes everyone feel good. Volunteers will ring a combined 24 hours per day from now until Christmas Eve.
