Former Pella basketball players are returning to the Pella High School gym to raise money to help the families of children with cancer.

The first annual Pinky Swear Holiday Classic is set to begin at 6 p.m. this evening.

Mary Core with the Pinky Swear Foundation tells KNIA/KRLS News it’s difficult for many parents to not only watch their kids fight through symptoms, but to also maintain the rest of their lives while medical treatments are ongoing. She says proceeds from the alumni game will support families with children battling cancer, and help cover non-medical expenses.

The name “Pinky Swear” comes from a promise made by Becky and Steve Chepokas to Mitch, who died from terminal cancer, to take care of other families in similar situations after Mitch chose to give away his money before he died. Tickets cost $5 at the door, and numerous fundraisers will be ongoing throughout the event to benefit the Pinky Swear Foundation.
