Freshman Kendall Brown scored a career high 23 points as the Central College women’s basketball went on the road to beat Dubuque 50-46, ending a seven game losing streak. The Dutch men then knocked off the Spartans 93-90 in overtime.
Brown averaged less than three points per game, but saw a significant bump in playing time with Claire Marburger, the team’s leading scorer, out of the lineup.
She was 7-of-12 from the floor, a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line, and added nine rebounds and five blocks. The Dutch improve to 9-9 overall and 2-7 in the Iowa Conference.
The Central men trailed 42-35 at the intermission, and were down by 12 with just over 16 minutes to play. In a second half of runs, Central eventually went up by 10 with 2:33 remaining, only to see the Spartans claw back to force overtime. The Dutch outscored Dubuque 11-8 in the extra frame to earn the win.
Kyle Smith led five Central players in double figures with 21. Trashawn Boyd added 19 and Colby Taylor scored 18, while Austin Glawe had a monster 14 point 17 rebound double-double.
Central is now 10-8 overall and 4-5 in league play. Both Dutch squads are at home against Coe College Saturday afternoon.
