Both Simpson Storm Basketball Games ended with the same outcome of their first matchup with the Wartburg Knights back in December, the men winning 86-80 and the women falling 80-62.
The Storm Men led wire-to-wire and survived a five minute scoreless drought in the second half on the back of Austin Turner’s 14 points, which included a 10/10 line at the charity stripe. Leading scorer Sam Amsbaugh was held to just 11 points, but Sabonis Smith stepped up his scoring and dropped 13 points. The Storm men improve to 13-7 overall and 6-5 in the Iowa Conference. The Storm Women hung with the #12 team in the nation for a half, but eventually ran out of steam in the 3rd quarter. Forwards Noreen Morrow and Maddie Simmons had 16 and 14 points respectively for the Storm, who fall to 7-13 overall and 4-7 in the Iowa Conference. Simpson will next play Buena Vista on Wednesday.
