Pella Christian heads west for a girl-boy basketball doubleheader tonight against Indianola.
In their first year in the Little Hawkeye Conference, every twin bill that Indianola has played has resulted in the same split. The class 5-A #1 ranked girls are undefeated, while the Indian boys have yet to get a victory.
Coach Kevin Van Maanen’s class 2-A #6 P.C. girls are the next team with a chance to upset Indianola.
“Of course we want to win, and that’s our number one goal. But we also want to make sure that we’re trying to get better. And if we can make steps in this game, it’s going to help us further down the road.”
On the boys’ side, it’s an Indianola team that hasn’t won a game yet in the league, against a Pella Christian squad that’s lost its last three in the LHC.
Eagles Coach Larry Hessing says that despite that record, the Indians are talented, and likely very motivated after getting blown out by Pella on Friday.
“They’re not going to like that feeling, and they’re going to be ready to play. I told our guys that they’re going to get somebody – they’re waiting to knock somebody off in the conference, and they’d love it to be us.”
Tonight’s doubleheader between Pella Christian and Indianola starts at 6:15 at Indianola High School. Trevor Castle and Wynne Veenstra will have the play-by-play on 92.1 KRLS beginning with pregame coverage at 6:00.
