The Knoxville Basketball Squads were in a giving and taking mood last night. The boys took control in the fourth quarter and roared back from nine points down to beat Chariton 72-66 clinching an outright South Central Conference championship, their second in three years. The Panthers struggled with shooting for the first three quarters, but erupted for 30 points in the fourth keyed by Trent Davis’s ten fourth quarter points and Cade McNeill’s three-three point shots that brought Knoxville back. Coach Jeff Larson told KNIA/KRLS Sports those players plus a few more stepped up big in the fourth quarter. McNeill lead Knoxville with 17 points. While the Knoxville boys were giving the fans and exciting win, the Knoxville girls were taking a chance for the Chargers to share a conference title as the Panthers took down Chariton 46-39, thus handing the SCC outright title to Eddyville-Blakesburg. The Panthers were able to get balanced scoring led by Katie Keitges with 16 points, Shaye Nichols with 12, and Kendrea Richardson with a double-double of ten points and 12 rebounds. Knoxville girls are 8-12 on the season and finish 7-5 on the conference while the boys have one final game in the conference game tonight against Eddyville-Blakesburg.
