The Democrats of Marion County held their Annual Soup-er Sunday Soup Luncheon this past Sunday.

The luncheon featured Iowa House Minority Leader Mark Smith as well as Rich Leopold, a future Democratic candidate for governor. The annual event is a chance for area democrats to get together, socialize and converse about current issues affecting the state. One area of concern that was brought up during the luncheon is the current legislation over collective bargaining in the state. Smith told KNIA/KRLS News the proposed bill could affect rural Iowa schools as well as their communities. Smith says the current law that has been in place for more than 40 years works well for rural areas and he is afraid any changes to that law could hinder rural schools, which could destroy small communities.Over 60 people attended the event.
