Pella Christian’s boys kicked off what they hope is another journey to Wells Fargo Arena with their 73-55 victory over Albia in the district semifinals, as heard live on 92.1 KRLS.
The Eagles used a 14-point 2nd quarter from Scott Haveman and the three-point shooting of Levi Jungling to pull away and be the team to end the Blue Demons season for the third year in a row.
Haveman finished with 25 points, five rebounds, and three steals, and told KNIA/KRLS Sports he was able to take advantage of some mismatches with Albia focused on Jungling.
“They went to a 1-3 zone with a chaser on Levi and that opened things up really well, so we got them out of that pretty quickly by hitting some open shots, and we just got a better feel for their man defense and started to see where the openings were and what the weak links were,” Haveman says.
Jungling tacked on 24 and David Kacmarynski had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Pella Christian’s boys are 18-4 and will face an Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont team that beat Centerville in overtime last night 83-80 on Tuesday in the District Finals.
