The Pella Christian boys basketball team forced 28 Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont turnovers and rolled to a 69-43 class 2-A district championship victory in a game heard live last night on KNIA.
The Eagles led just 16-13 after the first quarter, but Coach Larry Hessing’s squad outscored the Rockets 42-17 in the second and third quarters combined to put the game on ice.
“One of our keys in tonight’s game was not to allow Eddyville to get easy baskets. They did not really full court pressure us tonight – I don’t know that they thought that was going to work. They tend to turn people over either in their full court pressure or by really getting up in the passing lanes in their half court defense. We thought that would disallow any easy baskets by them, and we did a pretty good job. We held them to 21 points in the first half and we thought that was pretty good.”
Levi Jungling and David Kacmarynski each scored 15 to lead Pella Christian, and Alex Pringle added 12.
Up next for the 19-4 Eagles is a sub-state game on Saturday night in Oskaloosa against Highland. The Huskies knocked off Central Lee last night 74-56.
