During his visit to Pella, Congressman Dave Loebsack met with his 2016 Election challenger Dr. Christopher Peters of Iowa City.

Peters tells KNIA/KRLS News he didn’t discuss much in regards to politics with Congressman Loebsack, but says he was in town to explore the possibility of attempting to run for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Congress seat in 2018.

“I’m strongly considering running again,” Peters told KNIA/KRLS. “So at this stage of the game, we are putting together a campaign plan, exploratory committee, all that type of stuff that goes into it.”

“Last cycle we started seven months and a week before election day which really isn’t enough time to generate a really effective campaign.”

Peters says he was pleased with his overall success last November despite the short cycle, and if he decides to run again, aims to be more prepared to close the gap between himself and Congressman Loebsack at the polls.

“If we do it again this time, we want to do a very top-drawer campaign from the very beginning,” he says.

Loebsack defeated Peters in the 2016 Election by over 27,000 votes and a 54 to 46 percent margin in the 2nd congressional district.
